Tigers – A Brief Encounter

The tiger population in India has shown a steady increase over the last decade or so, and there are close to 3000 of them roaming the national parks now. We visit two of these, Ranthambore, which has made a remarkable recovery in its tiger population, and Bandhavgarh, always known for good sightings. The jungles offer plenty else by way of wild animals and birds

This is a short tour for those strapped for time, the chances of sighting one or more tigers are reasonable, and we have included the Taj Mahal as a bonus, whose sighting is assured.

Recommended Itinerary

DAY 01 - FLIGHT

Take an overnight flight to Delhi in the evening.

DAY 2 – DELHI-AGRA

Arrive in the morning, transfer straight by car to Agra, which takes about three hours, and stay at a comfortable first class hotel with a hot shower. If you have the time and inclination you can see the Taj Mahal at sunset from across the Yamuna River, as it turns crimson in the twilight.

DAYS 3 &4 - RANTHAMBORE

In the morning visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise; drive to the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary for a visit on a cycle rickshaw, then take the afternoon train to Sawai Madhopur (for Ranthambore), transfer to a comfortable lodge for 2 nights. Enjoy jeep safaris the next day.

DAY 5 - OVERNIGHT TRAIN

After a day of safaris take an overnight train to Bandhavgarh.

DAYS 6, 7 & 8 - BANDHAVGARH

Arrive in the morning and transfer to another comfortable jungle lodge for 3 nights. The park is situated in the Vindhya hills with an undulating terrain and is home to spotted deer, sambar, blackbucks, wild oxen, sloth bear, nilgai, barking deer, leopard and tiger. The rich and varied birdlife includes golden orioles, parakeets, hornbills and partridges. Enjoy jeep safaris.
